MedCalX App Reviews

Nothing special about this app

This app would be very good if you could keep track of all your patients exams of the past if you could add the photos I have of patients, and edit it, if you could have already a set of your preferred exams for certain conditions set out for you or that you already specially made for yourself. Im from Brazil in Recife, South America. I am an M.D.

Getting worse

Compared to older versions the developers had to remove certain formulas. Yes, nothing is mentioned in the app description. You just "discover" it, when trying to use it. Some items like "Age" cant be added to Favorites and the app always defaults to system language without an option to override it.

Doesnt work

Did not keep my doximity membership despite claiming it would. Formulas locked.

Excellent

Indispensable app for any medical resident.

Great app, but...

Imo, it would be a great feature if there was a way to add a personal formula. Also, adding a conversion tool would be very very useful as well (for example, converting LDL from mg/dL to mmol/L

Not working

I had purchased medcalc, but now there is this mandatory update. I have to pay (again!) for the App or it will not work! Terrible. Do not buy the App. In one year or so they will ask for more $

Newer version takes away features

Why would I want to upgrade to medcalcx when the original medcalc has all of the formulas and doesnt require in app purchases to access them?! Ill stick with the older app, thanks

Not a fan

Not a fan of the upgrade. I loved plan old MedCalc for its easy access to formulas that I use at work daily. Workflows may be useful to some but certainly did not provide any use for me. I just want the simplicity of MedCalc or will need to start looking elsewhere for my calculators.

Fewer formulas, pay once again

This app is good, I wont deny that. But... How come with each new version (which has the same formulas or even less in some cases) I have to pay to unlock them if I already did with Medcalc 2.7.5 (3230) which by the way had the best functionalities and access to all formulas. I wont pay again, too bad they dont offer support to the older and better version

disceptive!

I have the full MedCalc app and received the message that they are changing the program to MedCalx. They state that if you have the unlocked MedCalc, that MedCalx would be unlocked, and all you have to do is have both applications downloaded at the same time. Well, its not unlocked, and my preferences were not carried over. At best, this is deceptive; at worst, the developer is lying. Dont delete MedCalc from your device and keep using that "older" version!

Still the best calculator

This is still the best calculator and my daily go-to app. There’s only 1 or 2 formulas I’m missing that would be great to see added in the future (FIB-4 and West Haven please!). Not sure why they made a new app again but the import worked without problems and I didn’t have to pay again.

New iteration works well

Yes, its a bit of a hassle to upgrade, however if you previously purchased MedCalc there is a relatively painless process for migrating all your data to this new iteration. MedCalX works as well as MedCalc did and is worth the money if you want all the most up to date medical formulas with their PubMed links.

Excellent app

Im a resident and use this app every day on rounds. Its easy to use, easy to search, and has explanations for the formulas and interpretations as well. If youve used mdcalc.com, then get this app and youll never need that website again. Totally worth it. Not sure what others are complaining about, the upgrade worked fine for me and was of course free. I love the different options it has. From putting in an ABG and getting up to 3 concurrent interpretations of processes to being reminded of GCS or CAM-ICU to correcting calcium for albumin, it helps keep you accurate for presentations. Id highly recommend it.

I want more information!

Some things to make this a much more powerful app would be to include more information like the actual equation and how to exactly interpret the results (missing in some eqs). Also, I would love some information on pathophys and mechanism of why some parameters affect a score . . i.e. why would an increase creatinine affect someones MELD score. I retain things better if I know how it works. . I can input data and get a score in any other website or calculator.

Deceptive Publishers

MedCalc was much better, MedCalx was just created so that the publishers could start charging for features that were previously free.

Dont "upgrade". I made the mistake!

Ill be reverting back to the old version.

Deceptive promotion

Im a full version user of MedCalc. There was no free unlock of this new app. I deleted it. The MedCalc Pro has always worked fine anyway

Deceptive

Lied about upgrade, took away features and holding them for ransom. Use another calculator

Free unlock worked fine

The free unlock/import worked fine--had to go to "Settings" INSIDE the app to make this happen, but easily done. Great app, provides good actionable info.

Rip off

Just bought this a month ago, already had to update twice and now the new update that says it should be free for people who already bought Med calc will not load without me paying for it again. I havent used it much because 10 sec EM is easier to search. Sorry I bought this.
